MEET LINDA

Leadership for All Ohio's Children

A family tragedy halted my grandfather’s education after 8th grade.  However, because of public schools, his son—my father—became the first in his family to attend college.  This opportunity dramatically changed his life—and mine.

As a mother of four, I will work on the State Board of Education to ensure that all Ohio’s children have that same opportunity.  I firmly believe that quality public education provides our children with the skills they need to be engaged citizens, physicians, educators, entrepreneurs, and innovators, and to sustain a healthy, forward-looking society and economy.

For the past 28 years, my primary responsibility has been as a mother.   From my economics background, I knew that sacrificing a full-time career to stay with my children had a high financial opportunity cost.  Nevertheless, I diligently worked my professional life—including years in real estate and business management and my service to the Shawnee School District—around my family.  As I predicted, my close involvement in my children’s educations and activities, at home and school, has been priceless.  This experience as a mother is what has solidified my passion for education.  A position on the State Board of Education would enable me to exercise this passion for the benefit of all Ohio’s children.

Through my service on the Shawnee Local School Board, I have learned that diversity of skills and experience among school board members helps them make wiser choices. In my case, the lessons parenthood taught me—efficiency, fiscal responsibility, quick learning, short- and long-term planning, organization, stamina, and a willingness to listen to all sides—have proven indispensable to my work on the school board.

With my unique experience and qualifications, I hope I can have your vote for the State Board of Education!
